It’s only a slight variation, I know… but SaaS (software as a service) has been such a buzzcronym of late that I just assumed it had only one meaning, and that would be clean and efficient… and we could just move on with clarity.
On a different, but separate plane, I was thinking about my views on sales and strategy and tactics and all that mumbo-jumbo I’ve read about, listened to and put up with for so many years… you know, the stereotype. The thing I mention in my promotional copy for this business that I’m trying to avoid like the plague… it’s who I’m not, never was… probably definitely won’t be. Even though I tried… and learned better.
Now I know… it’s really Sales as a Service (SaaS)… and it all makes sense. I knew this all along but couldn’t articulate it… was discouraged from thinking it… chastised for promoting it. Unfortunately to some, it often sounded like an excuse for not achieving the holy numbers or speaking the holy tongues (from the Theology of Sales, Book of Ziig, Chapter 7).
Just so you know, I’m not getting too deep into this concept here in this blog post. Suffice to say that (like almost any other moment of astonishing clarity, which is often followed by deliberate and sometimes humorous thoughts accompanied by an occasional tidbit of joy at the notion) sales IS really service. And that, for me changes the game… back to the way it should have been, but thankfully, now is. And so we move forward.
